History & Significance

Part of the long-running MacLeod-MacDonald conflict over Trotternish in northern Skye. The MacLeods of Dunvegan and the MacDonalds of Sleat contested this fertile peninsula for generations. MacLeod victories like this kept the MacDonalds at bay in the north of the island, but the conflict continued until the MacDonalds eventually established dominance in the seventeenth century.
