The Battle

History & Significance

In the opening week of the Glyndwr rebellion in September 1400, Welsh forces attacked and burned the English market town of Welshpool. The attack was part of the coordinated opening strikes against English settlements in north-east Wales following the proclamation at Glyndyfrdwy. Welshpool was an important Marcher market centre and its burning sent a message that the rebellion could strike at the economic infrastructure of English power in the March.
