History & Significance

After Louis of France controlled much of England, a royalist force besieged Mountsorrel Castle in Leicestershire held for the barons. A large French and baronial relief army under the Count of Perche marched from London to raise the siege. The royalists withdrew to avoid destruction. The relief force then marched to Lincoln where it was defeated in the Fair of Lincoln.
