History & Significance

Angus son of Somerled and ancestor of Clan Donald raided the Kintyre mainland peninsula in the early thirteenth century as part of the MacSorley struggle to assert primacy over the Gaelic southwest. The Kintyre raids established the pattern of MacDonald aggression toward the Scottish mainland that would recur throughout the medieval period.
