Two French privateers, Le Mars and La Bellone, exchanged broadsides with three Royal Navy sloops (HMS Greyhound, HMS Terror, HMS Baltimore). Le Mars was hit repeatedly and took on water, but both French ships escaped to France that evening carrying Jacobite fugitives including the Duke of Perth, Lord John Drummond, Lord Elcho and Cameron of Lochiel. Considered one of the final actions of the 1745 Jacobite rising.

The Skirmish of Loch nan Uamh was a conflict that took place on 2 May 1746 and was part of the Jacobite rising of 1745. It was fought by the British Royal Navy against French privateers who were supporting the Jacobite rebels.
