Aberyscir Castle Mound is a motte dating from the Norman period in the twelfth century, located in Breconshire within the former lordship of Brecknock. The earthwork consists of a substantial raised mound typical of early Norman fortifications, constructed to command the surrounding landscape and serve as a defensive stronghold. The site represents an important phase of Norman military expansion and settlement in the Welsh Marches, when such mottes formed the first line of defensive architecture before more substantial stone structures were developed. The monument remains a significant archaeological feature preserving evidence of early medieval fortification strategy in south Wales.
