Aghintain Castle is a seventeenth-century fortified house and bawn located in the Dungannon area of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The structure represents a post-medieval fortification typical of the period following the Nine Years' War, when English and Old English landowners sought to protect their interests through defensible domestic architecture. The bawn, a walled enclosure surrounding the main house, provided practical defence for livestock and household dependents whilst the fortified house itself served as both residence and strongpoint. Such hybrid structures reflect the transitional security conditions of early seventeenth-century Ulster as English administrative control consolidated across the province.
