The Antonine Wall, Iain Road to path N of Westbourne Crescent is a section of the turf and stone rampart constructed by the Roman military in the second century AD. This designated monument represents part of the linear fortification built under the Emperor Antoninus Pius circa AD 142-143, extending approximately 37 miles across central Scotland from the Firth of Clyde to the Firth of Forth. The surviving earthwork in this location comprises the characteristic ditch and bank structure typical of the wall's construction, where a stone foundation supported a turf superstructure fronted by a substantial ditch. This stretch near Westbourne Crescent in Dunbartonshire forms part of the wall's well-preserved western section and remains an important archaeological record of Roman military engineering in Britain's northern frontier.
