Overview

History & significance

Arbourseats Veins and Sough, Wardlow Sough, Nay Green Mine and Washing Floors, Hading Vein and Seedlow Rake is a complex of lead mining remains located in Derbyshire. The site comprises multiple interconnected mining features including veins, a sough drainage system, and associated washing floors that reflect the intensive lead extraction activity characteristic of the Derbyshire mining industry. These remains principally date from the post-medieval and early industrial periods, when lead mining and processing became increasingly systematised in the Peak District. The sough represents important infrastructure for managing groundwater in underground mines, whilst the washing floors indicate the processing of ore at the surface, together forming an archaeological record of significant economic activity.
