Bewick Hall moated site is a medieval enclosed settlement located in Yorkshire, England. The site comprises a substantial rectangular moat surrounding an inner platform, a characteristic defensive and status-bearing feature of medieval manorial complexes from the twelfth century onwards. The moat, which remains largely well-preserved, originally enclosed a domestic and agricultural precinct typical of minor aristocratic or gentry landholdings during the medieval period. The site represents an important example of medieval settlement organisation and demonstrates the social stratification of the medieval English countryside through its physical layout and defensive earthworks.
