Blackstone Edge Roman Road is a substantial section of Roman road preserved on the Pennine moorland between Littleborough and Rochdale in Greater Manchester. The road, which formed part of the important route connecting the Roman forts at Mamucium (Manchester) and Ilkley, dates to the second century AD during the period of established Roman military occupation in northern Britain. The surviving stretch is notable for its well-preserved surface of pitched stone setts and cambered profile, which demonstrates Roman engineering practices designed to provide effective drainage across moorland terrain. The monument represents a significant surviving example of Roman road construction in the North of England and continues to be visible as a raised causeway across the landscape, making it an important archaeological resource for understanding Romano-British infrastructure.
