Blackstone Edge Roman road is a section of Roman metalled highway located on the Pennine moorland of West Yorkshire, believed to form part of the route between the forts at Castleshaw and Ilkley. The road surface survives as a distinctive raised causeway constructed of large stone setts, demonstrating the substantial engineering undertaken by Roman military authorities in this demanding upland terrain during the first and second centuries AD. The surviving section preserves evidence of Roman road construction techniques, with the characteristic convex profile designed to facilitate drainage across exposed moorland. This monument represents an important example of Roman communications infrastructure and remains one of the most visually prominent Roman roads surviving in northern England.
