The monument comprises a hut circle and associated field system positioned on Middle Old Red Sandstone bedrock of Middle Devonian age, composed of conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone and mudstone. This geological foundation would have provided reasonably stable ground for construction and cultivation, though the underlying stone influences the character of soils across the woodland site.
