Cairnpapple Hill is a prehistoric ceremonial complex situated in Linlithgowshire, West Lothian, Scotland. The site comprises a Neolithic henge monument and Bronze Age cairn, with evidence of occupation and ritual activity spanning from approximately 3500 BCE to 1500 BCE. The henge, one of the earliest ceremonial monuments in Scotland, features a bank and ditch formation, whilst later Bronze Age burials and a substantial stone cairn overlay the original Neolithic structures. Excavations in the mid-twentieth century revealed the site's long sequence of use as a focus for communal and funerary practice across successive prehistoric periods, making it significant for understanding the evolution of ceremonial landscapes in Scotland.
