Carrock Fell is a site of early twentieth-century mineral extraction in Cumberland comprising tungsten, lead, copper, and arsenic mines worked during the period of intensive wartime demand for tungsten. The remains include the substantial ruins of a tungsten mill, together with associated mining infrastructure, which represent the industrial exploitation of the fell's mineral resources during the First World War era and beyond. The site reflects the strategic importance of tungsten production to British industry in the early twentieth century, when the metal was essential for hardening steel in military applications. The physical remains preserve evidence of both the mining operations and the processing infrastructure that characterised this period of intensive industrial activity on the fell.
