Castell Nant-y-Garan is a motte-and-bailey castle situated in Ceredigion, Wales, dating to the Norman period of Welsh settlement and fortification. The monument consists of an earthwork mound typical of early medieval defensive architecture, constructed to establish Norman control over the surrounding territory during the twelfth century. The site represents the type of frontier fortification common in the Welsh Marches and inland Welsh regions where Norman lords sought to consolidate their holdings. Though now reduced to earthwork remains, the castle would have served as both a military strongpoint and administrative centre for the local Norman lordship.
