Clapper Bridge at Postbridge is a medieval packhorse bridge located on the eastern edge of Dartmoor in Devon. The bridge consists of large flat granite slabs laid across substantial stone piers to span the East Dart River, a construction method typical of medieval moorland crossings. Dating evidence and structural characteristics suggest it was built in the thirteenth or fourteenth century, though some authorities propose it may have been rebuilt or substantially repaired in later medieval or early modern periods. The bridge remains substantially intact and represents an important example of vernacular medieval engineering adapted to moorland conditions and the transport of goods across difficult terrain.
