Cockburn is a post-medieval settlement, farmstead and cultivation remains located approximately 1050 metres north of the designated site in Berwickshire, Scottish Borders. The site comprises the physical traces of human habitation and agricultural activity dating to the post-medieval period, including structural remains associated with farming settlement and field systems that reflect the agricultural organisation of the landscape during this era. The surviving archaeological evidence indicates patterns of land use typical of early modern rural settlement in the Scottish Borders, where farmsteads were often situated within areas of associated cultivation that supported subsistence and commercial agricultural activity. The site is recorded in the national heritage inventory as a significant example of post-medieval settlement archaeology in this region of southern Scotland.
