Counterscarp rath is an Early Christian ringfort situated near Omagh in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The monument consists of a circular earthwork enclosure typical of the Early Christian period, when such defended farmsteads served as the primary settlement form for the rural population across the island of Ireland. The site's name refers to the counterscarp bank, an outer defensive element characteristic of more substantially constructed examples of this monument type. As with many raths of this period, Counterscarp would have functioned as a domestic and agricultural centre for a farming household and their dependants during the Early Christian centuries.
