Cragganester is a post-medieval upland settlement complex situated north of Perthshire, comprising dispersed farmsteads, associated field systems, shielings, and trackways characteristic of Highland pastoral economy. The site represents typical Highland land use patterns from the early modern period, with evidence of both permanent settlement and seasonal pastoral transhumance reflected in the spatial arrangement of its component structures. The shielings indicate traditional cattle herding practices, whilst the field systems and roadways demonstrate how communities organised their use of marginal upland terrain.
