Cup and groove marked rock on Goldsborough Rigg, Cotherstone Moor is a prehistoric rock carving situated on open moorland in County Durham, England. The rock bears cup marks and groove marks, forms of motif created by repeated percussion that are characteristic of Neolithic and Bronze Age ritual or ceremonial activity in northern Britain. Such marked rocks remain undated with precision but are generally attributed to the later Neolithic or early Bronze Age periods, roughly between 3000 and 1500 BC. The monument represents an important survival of portable or fixed rock art that may have served votive, territorial, or ceremonial purposes within prehistoric upland communities.
