Dalmellington Motte is a medieval motte-and-bailey earthwork located in Ayrshire, Scotland. The site comprises a substantial mound typical of Norman and early medieval castle construction, dating to the 12th or 13th century. Such mottes served as defensive strongholds and administrative centres during the period of feudal consolidation in Scotland, and their presence reflects the extension of Norman settlement patterns into southern Scotland. The earthwork survives as a prominent topographical feature and represents an important example of early medieval fortification in the region.
