This deserted medieval farmstead and part of a Romano-British field system located 400 metres north of Fenswood Farm in Somerset is a monument of considerable chronological depth, spanning occupation from the Romano-British period through to medieval times. The site preserves evidence of Romano-British agricultural organisation in the form of field boundaries and associated infrastructure, whilst the medieval phase is represented by the remains of a farmstead that was subsequently abandoned. The palimpsest of land use demonstrates continuity and reuse of the landscape across more than a millennium, with later medieval settlement exploiting terrain and possibly land divisions established during the Roman period. The monument contributes to understanding of rural settlement patterns and agricultural practices in Somerset across these two significant historical periods.
