Duchal House Motte is a Medieval motte situated approximately 570 metres north-east of Duchal House in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The monument represents a characteristic example of early Medieval fortification, typical of the period following the Norman Conquest of England when such earthwork castles were constructed across lowland Scotland as symbols of feudal lordship and territorial control. The motte itself survives as an elevated earthwork, forming the distinctive artificial mound characteristic of this class of defence work. Though few documentary records survive concerning the specific history of this particular site, its physical form and location within Renfrewshire indicate it belongs to the broad period of Medieval castle construction in south-western Scotland.
