Overview

History & significance

Duntulm Castle is a ruined medieval stronghold located on the Isle of Skye in Inverness-shire, Scotland. The castle dates primarily from the medieval period and occupies a prominent defensive position on a headland overlooking the Sound of Duntulm. The remains consist of a multi-period fortification that served as a significant seat of power, most notably associated with the MacLeod of Dunvegan family. The castle's remains preserve evidence of stone construction typical of late medieval Scottish castle architecture, though much of the structure is now fragmentary and heavily ruined.
