Ebchester, known in antiquity as Vindomora, is a Roman auxiliary fort situated in County Durham in the north of England. Constructed in the second century AD as part of the defensive infrastructure of Roman Britain, the fort served as a garrison for auxiliary troops guarding the Stanegate, the military road that connected the forts along the northern frontier before the construction of Hadrian's Wall. The site preserves substantial remains of its stone fortifications and internal structures, including parts of the fort's defences and buildings typical of Roman military occupation. Vindomora remained in use through the third century and into the early fourth century, representing an important example of Roman frontier military architecture in northern Britain.
