Finzean House long cairn is a Neolithic monument located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, situated 390 metres north of Finzean House itself. Like other long cairns of its type, it dates to the early Neolithic period and would originally have served as a communal burial structure. The monument is constructed upon bedrock of the Argyll Group, a geological formation of ancient metamorphic rocks—psammites, semipelites and pelites—that were created during the Neoproterozoic era. These metamorphic strata have weathered considerably since their formation, providing the local stone resources available to Neolithic builders in this region.
The cairn represents an important record of early agricultural settlement in north-east Scotland during the fourth and third millennia before Christ. The monumentality of long cairns reflects the communal labour and social organisation of early farming communities, distinguishing them from the mobile populations of the preceding Mesolithic period.
