Fort Monckton is a Napoleonic-era coastal defence fortification located near Gosport in Hampshire. Constructed in the early nineteenth century as part of the extensive chain of defensive works built along the south coast during the Napoleonic Wars, the fort was designed to protect Portsmouth Harbour and the naval installations of the Solent from potential French invasion. The structure exemplifies the military engineering principles of the period, featuring the characteristic low profile and angular bastioned design intended to maximise defensive firepower whilst minimising exposure to enemy artillery.
