Great Grassoms is a Prehistoric and medieval monument complex located on Bootle Fell in Cumberland, comprising a cairnfield with four funerary cairns dating to the Bronze Age, alongside evidence of two medieval dispersed settlements and their associated field systems. The prehistoric cairns represent burial practices typical of the Bronze Age period, whilst the later medieval settlement remains demonstrate continued human exploitation and occupation of this upland landscape through the medieval period. The monument reflects the long chronological sequence of activity on Bootle Fell, from prehistoric funerary practices through to post-medieval agricultural use of the surrounding land. The site, designated under National Heritage List for England entry number 1017065, preserves important archaeological evidence for understanding both prehistoric settlement patterns and medieval upland farming communities in the northern English Lakes region.
