Lath Rigg is a prehistoric cairnfield, hut circle and field system located on Thwaites Fell in Cumberland, demonstrating settlement and land use patterns from the Bronze Age through to later periods. The monument comprises scattered cairns, at least one hut circle, and associated field boundaries that reflect the intensive use of the upland landscape for both habitation and pastoral farming. The cairnfield itself represents clearance of stone from cultivation or stock management activities, whilst the hut circle indicates permanent or semi-permanent occupation of this exposed moorland environment. The complex field systems visible across the site illustrate the organisation of prehistoric agricultural communities and their adaptation to the Lakeland upland terrain.
