Hadrian's Wall and vallum between field boundary east of milecastle 24 and field boundary west of the site of turret 25b in wall miles 24 to 25 is a section of the Roman frontier fortification erected in the second century AD. This segment preserves portions of both the wall itself and the vallum, a substantial ditch-and-bank earthwork system constructed on the southern side of the wall as part of the defensive infrastructure. Dating to the reign of Emperor Hadrian, approximately 122 AD onwards, this section represents the physical remains of one of the most ambitious military engineering projects of the Roman Empire. The surviving archaeological remains in this locality demonstrate the scale and construction methods of the frontier system that extended across northern Britain.
