The monument dates to the medieval period, representing a form of fortified residence characteristic of the 11th to 13th centuries. The site comprises a circular or oval defensive bank with an associated bailey platform, typical of smaller lordly strongholds of the medieval era. Such ringworks were strategically sited to provide defensible positions whilst serving as administrative and residential centres for their occupants during the medieval period.
