Hilltop enclosure and a pillow mound on Knowle Hill is a prehistoric and medieval monument complex located in Dorset. The hilltop enclosure represents Iron Age settlement activity, whilst the pillow mound is a medieval earthwork, likely constructed during the twelfth to sixteenth centuries as an artificial rabbit warren to provide a protein source for the local medieval population. The site demonstrates the long sequence of human occupation and land use management across this location from the Iron Age through the medieval period. The survival of both features as earthworks provides evidence for understanding settlement patterns and agricultural practices across different periods of English history.
