The site comprises multiple hut circles, the circular or sub-circular foundations of roundhouses that formed the dwellings of Bronze Age and Iron Age communities. These structures would have housed family groups engaged in pastoral and agricultural subsistence, taking advantage of the elevated landscape for settlement.
The settlement sits upon Neoproterozoic bedrock comprising unnamed extrusive felsic tuff rocks, ancient volcanic material that was formed during the Neoproterozoic era more than 540 million years ago. This hard, weathered stone would have been available locally for the construction of hut foundations and boundary features that still define the settlement's layout today. The geology reflects the significant tectonic events that shaped the Welsh landscape in deep time, before human occupation.
