Ingleston Mote is a medieval motte located in Kirkcudbrightshire, south-western Scotland. The monument comprises an earthen mound of the type characteristic of Anglo-Norman defensive architecture established in Scotland during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Such mottes typically supported timber or stone fortifications on their summits and represent early feudal settlement patterns introduced into the region during the medieval period. The site's survival as an archaeological feature demonstrates the former strategic importance of this locality within the medieval landscape of Galloway.
