Kingavin is a deserted village situated 650 metres east-north-east of Dunagoil on the Isle of Bute in south-western Scotland. The settlement dates to the Iron Age, when it formed part of the distinctive settlement pattern of the Clyde region. The site lies upon Dinantian extrusive rocks of Mississippian age, comprising mafic lava and tuff that underlie much of Bute's landscape. These volcanic bedrock foundations have shaped the terrain and drainage patterns that would have influenced the location of this ancient community.
