Liddel Castle is a medieval fortified site located near Newcastleton in Roxburghshire, on the border between Scotland and England. The castle comprises earthwork remains including a motte and bailey, evidence of its twelfth-century origins as a Norman defensive structure. The site occupies a strategic position overlooking the Liddesdale valley, reflecting its importance during the period of Anglo-Scottish border conflict. The surviving earthworks demonstrate the layout of a typical medieval ringwork or motte-and-bailey fortification, though stone structures associated with later occupation may also have stood on the site.
