Lower Swell long barrow is a Neolithic chambered tomb located approximately four hundred metres north-west of St Mary's Church in the village of Lower Swell, Gloucestershire. The monument belongs to the long barrow tradition of the early Neolithic period, typically dating to around four thousand five hundred to three thousand eight hundred years before the present. The barrow survives as an earthwork mound and represents an important example of funerary architecture from this period, constructed to contain human burials and serving ritual and communal functions within its local landscape. Such monuments are characteristic of early agricultural communities in the Cotswolds and demonstrate the ceremonial investment these societies placed in burial practices.
