Meadowfield Enclosure is a post-medieval field boundary located 400 metres east-north-east of Meadowfield in Nairnshire, Scotland. The monument comprises earthwork remains characteristic of early modern agricultural organisation, when such enclosed plots became increasingly common across the Scottish Lowlands and their margins. The enclosure lies upon bedrock of Middle Old Red Sandstone, comprising conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone and mudstone from the Middle Devonian period, geology that has shaped the landscape and soil composition of this part of Nairnshire for geological time scales.
The site occupies an area of undulating terrain typical of the region, where post-medieval farmers worked to extract value from marginal land. Such enclosures reflect the gradual intensification of agriculture and the consolidation of landholdings during the 16th to 18th centuries, when traditional runrig farming gave way to more efficient enclosed farming systems. The earthwork survives as a testament to centuries of land management practices.
