The medieval settlement and open field system located approximately 250 metres north west of Callow Hall is a scheduled ancient monument in Derbyshire representing the organised agricultural landscape of the medieval period. The site comprises earthwork remains of settlement features and ridge and furrow cultivation patterns characteristic of the open field farming system that dominated English agricultural practice from around the eleventh century onwards. These physical remains, visible as soil and grass covered banks and furrows, provide evidence of the medieval community's relationship with the land and the division of arable holdings that structured rural society during this period. The survival of such earthworks, largely protected from later agricultural disturbance, makes the site valuable for understanding the spatial organisation and development of medieval rural settlement in the Peak District region.
