The site comprises the remains of a moat and associated fishpond, features typical of high-status medieval domestic establishments from the twelfth century onwards. The moat would have originally enclosed a residential dwelling, whilst the fishpond represents a valuable resource for food production and was a common feature of manorial complexes. The earthworks survive as topographic features in the landscape, preserving evidence of medieval settlement patterns and agricultural management in the region.
