The Toot is a motte and bailey castle situated approximately 450 metres south-west of St Mary's Church in Buckinghamshire. The monument comprises a substantial motte with an adjoining bailey, representing a typical Norman fortification of the post-Conquest period, likely dating from the eleventh or twelfth century. The earthwork remains visible as an elevated mound with associated defensive ditches, though the superstructure has been lost. The site continued in use as a manorial complex in later medieval periods, reflecting the transition from military stronghold to administrative centre for local landholding.
