Moated Site and Fishponds east of Rowden Manor is a medieval monument located in Wiltshire comprising a substantial moated enclosure accompanied by associated fishponds. The moated site itself dates to the medieval period and represents a form of settlement defence and status assertion typical of the twelfth to sixteenth centuries, whilst the fishponds served the practical purpose of maintaining freshwater fish stocks for consumption. The monument survives as earthwork remains consisting of the characteristic water-filled or damp ditch systems defining the moated area and the pond basins constructed to the east of Rowden Manor. Such complexes were common features of medieval manorial landscapes in southern England, indicating the presence of a significant medieval holding at this location.
