Dane's Camp is a motte castle situated approximately 400 metres south of Hampden House in Buckinghamshire, England. The monument consists of an earthen mound of characteristic Norman military design, typical of the castle-building phase that followed the Norman Conquest of 1066. Such mottes served as strongpoints for Norman lords establishing control over their newly acquired English lands, with the elevated mound providing defensive advantage and a platform for timber fortifications. The site remains substantially preserved as an earthwork monument, preserving evidence of early medieval military architecture in the landscape.
