Dane's Camp is a motte-and-bailey castle located approximately 400 metres south of Hampden House in Buckinghamshire. The monument consists of a substantial mound, characteristic of Norman fortifications constructed in the eleventh and twelfth centuries following the Conquest of 1066. The site represents a typical example of early medieval defensive architecture, wherein an elevated mound would have supported a wooden or stone structure, with an adjoining bailey providing additional protection and functional space. Such castles served as both military strongholds and symbols of Norman authority during the early feudal period in England.
