Helenton Motte is a motte-and-bailey earthwork located in Ayrshire, Scotland. The monument comprises a raised mound typical of Norman or early medieval fortification, constructed to serve defensive and administrative purposes during the medieval period. Such mottes were common in Scotland from the twelfth century onwards, often forming the focal point of early feudal settlements and territorial control. The site remains an important archaeological record of medieval settlement patterns and the spread of Norman-influenced fortification practices into lowland Scotland.
