Mound and Bailey Castle is a motte-and-bailey fortification located approximately 360 metres south-east of St Peter's Church in Radnorshire, Wales, and is recorded as a scheduled ancient monument under the Cadw reference RD058. The site consists of a raised mound, characteristic of Norman or early medieval defensive earthworks constructed in Wales during the period following the Norman conquest. Such mottes, typically crowned with timber or stone fortifications, served as administrative and military centres for the Norman lords who controlled the border territories of Wales and England during the twelfth century. The survival of the earthwork demonstrates the strategic importance of this location in Radnorshire's medieval landscape and the pattern of Norman settlement and control across the Welsh Marches.
