Nether Tillyrie is a souterrain, an underground stone-built structure dating to the Iron Age, located in Kinross-shire, Scotland. Souterrains are characteristic of northern Britain during the first millennium BCE and the early centuries CE, comprising stone-lined passages and chambers excavated into or built against hillsides. These structures remain enigmatic in purpose; they may have served as storage facilities, refuges, or ritual spaces within Iron Age communities. The monument lies 490 metres west of Nether Tillyrie farm.
The souterrain is constructed upon bedrock composed of mafic lava and tuff of Devonian age, belonging to an unnamed sequence of extrusive igneous rocks. This Silurian to Devonian geology provided the stone used in the souterrain's construction and would have influenced the building techniques required to create the underground passage. The underlying volcanic bedrock is typical of the ancient geological formations that characterise much of central Scotland.
