Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork that forms part of the extensive defensive frontier constructed during the reign of King Offa of Mercia in the late eighth century. This section, located south-east of Fron in Shropshire, comprises a substantial bank and ditch running north-south across the Welsh borderlands, representing a surviving stretch of one of the most significant Anglo-Saxon engineering works in Britain. The earthwork demonstrates the scale of Offa's ambition to demarcate and fortify the boundary between Mercia and the Welsh kingdoms, and this particular section retains good archaeological preservation of its original constructed form. The monument dates to the late eighth century, approximately 757–796 AD, and remains a tangible testament to early medieval territorial control and engineering capability.
