Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork of 8th-century date constructed during the reign of King Offa of Mercia as a boundary demarcation between the Kingdom of Mercia and the Welsh kingdoms. This section, approximately 390 metres in length situated south of the Chirbury-Montgomery road in Shropshire, survives as an upstanding bank and ditch feature representative of the larger monument's construction technique. The dyke in this locality demonstrates the characteristic profile of the work, consisting of a substantial bank fronted by a ditch, the dimensions and preservation varying along its course according to topography and subsequent land use. This section forms part of the most extensively preserved stretch of Offa's Dyke, which runs for approximately 177 kilometres along the England-Wales border, and remains one of the most significant surviving examples of early medieval frontier engineering in Britain.
