Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork monument forming part of the famous 8th-century defensive frontier constructed during the reign of King Offa of Mercia. This section in Boatwood Plantation, located southwest of Chase Farm near the Welsh border in Gloucestershire, comprises a ditch and bank characteristic of the wider dyke system. The monument remains substantially preserved within the plantation, retaining its original structural form as an important survival of Anglo-Saxon engineering and territorial demarcation. The dyke represents one of the most significant monuments of the early medieval period in Britain, marking the boundary between Welsh and English kingdoms and demonstrating Mercian military and administrative capability during the late 8th century.
