History & significance

Oxwich Bay Coast Defence/Chain Home Low Radar Station is a Second World War defensive installation located on the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, Wales. The station was part of the Chain Home Low radar network established by the Royal Air Force to detect low-flying enemy aircraft, a capability that became increasingly vital during the Battle of Britain and subsequent aerial campaigns. The surviving structures reflect the functional architecture typical of wartime radar stations, comprising concrete foundations and associated buildings that supported the operation of detection equipment.
